SUMMER MULMUL COTTON SAREE

MulMul - The ultimate fabric for summer

Mulmul is a soft and fine weave of cotton belonging to the family of muslin. It is centuries ago when weavers from Bangladesh (part of pre-independent India)  first weaved it.

It originated in Bangladesh's Dhakeshwari or Dhaka, which at the time was a part of India. It is believed that Bengali Muslims traded the yarn all around the Islamic countries, which is how it got to the Middle East. The main exporter of premium muslin during the Mughal era was "Mughal Bengal," and Dhaka became the centre of the global muslin trade.

During this time, when the trade of this fabric was flourishing, the British actively attempted to suppress it. The purest quality of mulmul could fit into a matchbox and pass through a ring. The British chose to stop production and repress knowledge by chopping off the thumbs of the craftsmen since industrial manufactured and imported fabric(led by Britishers) could not compete with the superior hand-woven counterpart in India. The production of Mulmul almost suffered for about two centuries for this reason.
Gradually it got revived and now it is available easily. It is also not as expensive as it used to be.It is said to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. One of the benefits of this fabric is that it can be dyed easily and gets softer and softer with every wash. This makes it possible to create a wide range of colors and patterns, making it a versatile textile for fashion designers and first choice for people seeking comfort and style.
Mulmul fabric is so sensitive and soft that it is often referred to as a “Woven Wind”.
Do you remember listening to the 1949 song, 'Hawa mein udta jaye mora laal dupatta Mulmul ka' (Or at least the Bombay Viking remix?)and envisioning a soft, flowy red cloth flying away with the wind? this song did romanticise the soft breezy fluid like mulmul for all of us.
We did imagine ourselves wrapping this piece of fluid textured elegance and getting lost in the beautiful frames of the romantic world.

Inspired by the song ,we have created our entire Summer'23 by ABG collection on "The Mulmul" fabric in 8 gorgeous pastel shades and beautiful hand block prints so that you have your own version of " Hawa mean udta jade smera Laal dupatta mulmul ka"
